Branding Challenge Series
So, I haven’t written much about my personal Branding Challenge lately, mainly due to the fact that I realize the importance of following the necessary steps to brand smartly (like taking the time to analyze my mission statement and my target market before choosing a company name), but I’ve been doing all this in between my regular client work.
The truth is, there’s a lot of thought required to complete each of these steps – and I really want to get it right! And not only do I want to get it right, I want to be thorough. (In other words, I definitely do not want to do this half-assed!)
Thinkin’ BIG
The main challenge I’m currently struggling with is answering the BIG questions about my business. I know it’s important to Think BIG when it comes to branding – I work through this process with my clients all the time – but I find it’s easier to look at these big questions from an outside perspective.
Some of my Think BIG Questions I’ve been struggling with: What are my true short-term and long-term business goals? What can I offer my target market that is different than my competitors’ services? What is my BIG vision? What is the BIG WHY?
Because I haven’t figured out the answers to my BIG questions, I’m having a hard time creating a brand identity for my company or even realizing what branding direction to head next.
Must Focus!
Additionally, it’s obvious I’m struggling with focus lately. I know, I know, I should follow my own focus-finding advice, right? Well, I’m a perpetual multitasker – guilty as charged. (Could be a side effect of being right-brained!)
How I operate: when I get stuck or bored with one project, I move right on to the next. Eventually I come back to the original project, but I need time to skip around and explore possibilities. This works well for my day-to-day business projects, but not so well when it comes to working on the steps for my own personal brand. Without the benefit of an outsider’s perspective, I believe that creating my personal brand requires a more linear, step-by-step process – and I can’t skip ahead when I get stuck.
Next Steps…
The good news so far? Well, I’ve taken my own advice and joined a mastermind group; I’ve also hired a personal coach to see me through these road bumps, and I now have an accountability partner to help me keep on track day-to-day. So I know I’m on the right track – I just need to get down to business.
